We have probably all struggled at one time or another with wandering thoughts or sleepiness in prayer. Does anyone have any practical advice on how they have been able to overcome this?
One thing I have found helpful, sometimes, in keeping my thoughts on prayer is to meditate on a verse as I pray. When my mind gets distracted, I bring it back to the verse, repeating it. It can just be part of a verse, but that can help.
Another option to staying focused is to find someone to pray with. It might mean that you need to pick up the phone and call someone. I have done this multiple times and it’s a great blessing and inspiration.
I too, have struggled with sleepiness in prayer. I have found that walking really helps me to be able to stay alert. For me, I pray better when I have my eyes open. Not distracted, but not in a sleep position.
Good Idea. Thanks for sharing.

Be sincere and actually care about what we are praying about. If it burdens me I can't be sleepy or have my thoughts wander.
Ask God for a burden to pray. Move about, lift your hands, pray out loud.
Some people find walking as you pray helpful. And a written list in hand. And speak the prayers out loud.
